Biography

Pt. Arvindkumar Azad is now one of the torchbearers of the Benares Gharana.

"I am fortunate to be a student of this fascinating instrument."

He is the most sought-after accompanist by connoisseurs in the field of Indian classical music and dance, and is renowned for accompanying all the three fields of Indian classical music - vocal, instrumental and dance (kathak).

His contained, controlled, yet complementary, supportive and extremely melodious Tabla accompaniment makes him the 'most preferred' Tabla player by stalwarts like Pt. Birju Maharaj,Pt. Ramnarayan, Pandita Girija Devi,Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Pandita Rohini Bhate, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Dr. N. Rajam - the list continues! He has exhibited his artistic finesse in almost all major prestigious concerts in the country, as Tansen Samaroh, Gunidas Sammelan, Maharana Kumbha Samaroh, Sawai Gandharva Mahotsava, Saptak Samaroh, Sankatmochan Samaroh and numerous other concerts of similar caliber!

Pt. Arvindkumar Azad is an ‘A’ Grade Artist at All India Radio. He is also an Approved Artist at Doordarshan.

Pt. Azad is a Ph. D. Guide at Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University. He is a Guru and Senior Advisor at Bharati Vidyapeeth School of Performing Arts. He is also Senior Examiner at Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.

Pt. Arvindkumarji is an Honarary Advisor and Guru at various educational and classical music institutions throughout the country.
