Biography

Heera Kulkarni is a well-known musician and
music teacher based in California. She is an artist of Gwalior Gharana with Sangeet Visharad degree from Gandharva Mahavidyalay, New Delhi. Heera is the founder & director of Raga Academy of Indian Music serving the community since 1990. At Raga Academy performing & teaching music is a passion and not a business.

All proceeds from Raga Academy of Indian Music after paying taxes are used for by Heera for CHARITY & for the promotion of classical & traditional arts of India.

Raga Academy of Indian Music was established to preserve the musical and cultural heritage of India by offering classes to children and adults in the music and culture of India.

Raga Academy also strives to foster better understanding of Indian music and culture among various communities by presenting workshops and lecture cum demonstrations.

Raga Academy uses structured curriculum from Gandharva Mahavidyalya to teach children and adults in small classes. Embark on your musical journey and connect with your heritage.

Three guiding principles or "The Three R's" of Raga Academy:

Reverence: Utmost respect for the traditional arts, our heritage and our Gurus (teacher)
Riyaz: Sadhana - dedication in practicing your lessons sincerely. Famous vocalist Begum Parveen Sultana says, "Riyaz karoge to raaj karoge!"- "If you practice regularly you will rule the world with your music."
Regular attendance: It is a must in order to make good progress in your musical journey.

Heera also established "Sangeet Bharati", a non-profit organization in 2003 to promote the classical arts and culture of India.
