Dr. Devika Borthakur has been professionally involved in the field of Art and Culture from last 15 years. She has completed a research work (PhD) on Performing Arts on the topic ‘A comparative study of two classical dance forms of India: Bharatnatyam and Sattriya’ from Dibrugarh University, Assam under the guidance of Sahitya Akademi Awardee Late Guru Dr. Kesavananda Dev Goswami. Recently she has been awarded Fellowship from Ministry of Culture as Outstanding Person in Sattriya field. July 2017. (Jr. Fellowship). She has also received Bharatnatyam training from Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner Guru Dr. Sucheta Chapekar and completed M.A under her. Devika has qualified UGC NET on Performing Arts.
She is putting efforts to establish Sattriya Dance form in Pune, one of the most cultured places of India. Many non Assamese dancers are learning Sattriya Dance under her which is a great achievement for Sattriya Form. Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune is introducing Sattriya Courses in Different modules, which is a unique step, making Bharati Vidyapeeth the first-ever institution in the country to offer Sattriya course outside Assam. She is presently working as an Assistant Professor in Performing Arts Dept. Bharati Vidyapeeth University.
Devika is learning new compositions of Sattriya dance under Ustad Bishmilla Khan Yuva Purashkar Awardee Guru Sri Naren Baruah of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra. She has established A Dance institute in Pune Called ‘ADI’ (Art of Dance in India) where many students are learning Sattriya , Bharatnatyam and Creative Dances.
