Gane – Guraiche is a traditional way of worshiping a deity with songs and games, performed by Shri Dnyaneshwar Sanskrutik Mandal, Rahuri : 413 705, Dist.: Ahmednagar – Maharashtra State.
The prime intent of this performance is to enrich Cultural Tradition of Maharashtra State. This performance will acquaint the audience , particularly the younger generation, with the Traditional and Cultural aspect of Maharashtra wherein there is a glimpse of Social Setup. The performance is an attempt to preserve the folk songs, folk music, folk dance, folk culture of Maharashtra State.
The programme is based on a well known ritual of Maharashtra Women known as “The Mangala Gauri Vrata”. This Vrata is observed in the month of Shravana (Sawan) a popular month of a year in all Indian Cultures. While observing the Mangala Gauri Vrata women play various games and perform activities that need women’s physical fitness and acrobatic skills. This is an indirect tool of the women’s upliftment and equipping them for self defence.
Like a definition of the Democracy, this programme is- Of the Women,By the Women and For the Women!
Summary of the Play:
Gane Gauraiche is an enactment of feminine Dance-drama based on folk verses and relevant dances and skilful acrobatic game-events related with each folk verse. The compilation and script creation suitable to the performance is done by Mrs. Shubha S. Kulkarni. She has directed this dance-drama. There are about 30 folk verses and 30 game-events related with each folk verse.
Before the start of each verse, the narrator gives an idea about the verse and its related game-event to the audience. During the enactment by the group, the rhymed folk verses are sung by a singer well supported with suitable musical instruments.
Approximately sixty minutes Gane Gauraiche feminine dance-drama performance starts with ‘Ganesh Vandana’ and ends with a folk verse narrating water fetching from a town well signifying the beginning of the routine day activities of the household women.
