Born in 1967, in Chhindawara (M.P.), Rajeev
Marathe is a man of multiple paths. On
one side he obtained his B.Tech (Electronics) from M.I.T.S., Gwalior in 1988
and M.Tech (Control Systems) degree from IIT Kanpur in 1997 and on the other
hand he acquired “Sangeet Prabhakar” from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad in
1982 & B. Music (Vocal) from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya,
Khairagarh, in 1987.
After his basic schooling in music, he pursued
a special training of khayal gayaki of Gwalior Gharana under the able tutelage
of Late Dr. Arun Bangre.
He has bagged Ist prize in All India Vocal
Music Competition held by BITS Pilani in 1987.
He was also invited by South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Min. of Human
Resources, Govt. of India
to perform in their prestigious “Yuva Nritya & Sangeet Samaroh” held at
Tirupati & Nagpur in 1988.
Apart from performance he has penned a few
articles on Indian Music. He has to his
credit many compositions in different ragas & talas. He has also conceptualized a new raga, which
he has named as “Raga Arun” after his Guru’s name. He has also cut an album of Bhakti Sangeet.
At present he is working as Associate Director,
heading a team of scientists and engineers at IRDE (DRDO), Dehra Dun, Ministry
of Defense.
