Biography

Astha started her lessons in kathak dance at the tiny age of five. Under Guru Shishya Parampara her mother, the famous dancer Savita Godbole, a sincere and hardworking disciple of the kathak Doyen Guru 'Acharya Lacchu Maharaj', of Lucknow gharana. Astha's devotion, sincere efforts and the rigorous training of her mother moulded her to a promising artist. she started showing the spark and at the age of eight, she started performing with her mother in Bundelkhand Sangeet Samaroh, First acievement she received at All India Music Conference at Allahabad. Since then she never looked back.

After 15 years kathak training she applied for drama and she took three years training with School for drama. 'Kala Academy', Goa, under the guidance of the Director School of drama Mr. Vasant Joshalkar, Mrs. Padmashree Joshalkar and Afsar Hussain.

Career

Astha gave some memorable performances at various places and did some experiments - 'Horizon series By Indian council for cultural resources, Kathak Sandhya, Kathak Sansthan, birth centenary of 'Kathak Doyen Lachhu Maharaj', Ustad Amirkhan smruti samaroh, Kalidas samman arpan samaroh, Pratibha Utsav, Durga festival, vividh kala mahotsav of Govt. of Maharastra, Regional centre Pune, Bhopal, Lucknow, Allahabad, Kanpur, Sangeet Natak Academy-New Delhi. Also she did some experimental work in the field of dance like-

Samudra manthan - mythological - use of the compositions of tabla and pakhawaj.

Duet - Kathak and Bharatnatyam - Similes in the dance forms. Also she coreographed some.

Nari shakti - presentation of text book poetries in dance drama style.

She assisted in some workshops for body movements, movement, for street children, for kathak.

She represented Indian classical dance and its aesthetic values at 'Greece' in international seminar on culture and dance.

Astha directed one act plays like 'Pratimbimb', 'Urubhangam' and 'Mandeshi manse', story enactment, dance direction for 'Devi Ahilya bai Holkar' (mahanatya), bayan a solo narration by Kamleshwar.

Awards & Achievements

Astha was a Scholarship holder, She received many Scholarships for her kathak - CCRT scholarship Government of India, Consecutively for 10 years.

SCZC senior scholarship Government of India, consecutiev for two years .

Scholarship of Theater Art by Dept. of Culture HRD ministry of Government of India, for consecutive two years., also she got U.P. Sangeet Natak academy, - runner up.

She did foreign tours for kathak performance and workshops, in France she went twice for kathak. After that she went to Honkong for one and a half years as a kathak trainer.
