Dance is a passion for Swapna Rajendrakumar, and her belief that dance gives one the greatest freedom of all to express has helped her embrace dance as a integral part of her life. Swapna's entry to the cultural diverse world of Indian classical dance form was initiated at the age of five. Under the able guidance of Guru Smt. Sunanda Nair, she started her training in Bharathanatyam. Smt. Sunanda Nair is the disciple of the noted Mohiniattam exponent Padmashree Dr.(Smt) Kanak Rele, who is renowned for her contribution to revival and popularization of this classical dance style. En-course her journey as a student, she got the opportunity to be exposed to different clasical dance forms. The mesmerizing and sensuous body movements of Mohiniattam captivated her attention and she pursued her training in this dance form.
Swapna Raju believes that different forms and styles of dance closely associate cultural identities and will morph; adapt to associate itself with cultural beliefs and changes. Natively a Keralite based in Bangaluru, the inclusion of diverse cultures in the city gave her ample opportunities to exhibit recitals in the Mohiniattam style of dancing. She has prepared for her vocation both as a professional dancer and a teacher of dance through rich and multi-faceted experiences in higher academics, stage performances, classroom instruction and choreography. Swapna Rajendrakumar's constant thirst for learning and gaining diverse perspectives in classical dance, has amplified her belief in sharing this acquired knowledge.
