Biography

Avneet Sawhney a.k.a. DJ SoNu showed a penchant for music from a very young age. As one of the more well known faces in Pune’s DJ circuit, his style can be best described as Rock and Retro. He also plays some EDM and Bollywood. Furthermore, he has also created his own mixes and tracks that seem to be catching on at a quick pace.

DJ SoNu has been playing his way into people’s hearts for Over 15 years now (Since 1998) to which most night spots in pune have been a witness to . And just like the Pied Piper, his flute seems to be getting more melodious with time. Other than the festive season he Has also spun a web of nonstop English music on Pune's only music station (94.3) for two hours every saturday night and seems to be spreading the joy amongst Puneites following him on air. He is also the proprietor of ‘Frequencys’, a company that hones the skills of young aspiring DJ’s and also Manages various events weddings and parties. DJ Sonu has always believed in spreading Joy through music – be it playing at clubs, weddings, or even while training his proteges. His love for his work is almost palpable, and rightly so.

You cannot play music for as long as he has done and more importantly, as well as he has done, without taking a certain amount of pride in and being passionate about your work.

Career

DJ SoNu musically started a journey back in `1998 at 1000 oaks Pune majoring in Rock n Retro. The journey which started by fading in and out rock an retro tracks , has indeed come along way playing almost all styles of music and specializing in Retro at this date and also creating self made mix's and tracks . ‘ It's just a great feeling’ !!! His interest always lay in Music, Sports, Events, Recreation and he being a outgoing personal, tried his hand at music as a Disc Jockey (DJ) at which he did quite well. Along college and University's days he studied during the days and at night managed to get a job at a city pub as a DJ, where He captured an image that brought along respect and fame at a very early age for Sonu (avneet sawhney).

Since growing up days the Era of 90's had a great impact on him and the music genre catered to was that of the early 70's thru the 90's. He was specializing in RETRO, by 2004 for a period of 6 good and successful years after which offers came in from all directions and went different places catering to crowds in and around the city.

* Thousand Oaks: Resident Disc Jockey July 1999 To July 2004 One of Pune city’s finest pubs still on a roll known for its perfect ambience and music along with great food and service, my roll, worked as a Resident Disc Jockey (DJ) there for a substantial time. Played a large variety of Rock and Retro music to cater to masses. Created strong client and public relations. Part of Events with the likes of 'Garry lawyer', 'country silk', 'Raghav', 'Harmony Inc.', Karaoke nights with various celebrities , and more .

* Jockey March2008 To Oct 2008 Managed the Music. Resident In-house DJ.

* Decibels Denon Dj Academy: Course Instructor August 2004 To April 2007 (part time) Course instructor at Decibels Denon Dj Academy ( Koregaon Park , Pune ) Training the students of the academy on the basics of “Djin”. Handling the academy activities from enquiry’s to student registrations to training and screening of new students.

* High Spirits Cafe 2006 To 2008 disc jockey over the weekends. Currently working on freelance basis for corporate companies, pubs, clubs, personal and commercial gatherings, Also managing and handling Events for the same. Such as to the following:

Wipro, Convergys, HSBC Software development Center, Idea Cellular, Radio mirchi – Mirchi blast’04 at Ganga Retreat Countryside (New Years Eve), Magarpatta city – Ebony n Ivory theme at Deccan Harvest New Years Eve ’05, Several outdoor events, corporate events and private parties, Sahara Amby Valley (discotheque), Lonavla.
