   Biography

Vedanti Bhagwat, who is born in the small town called Cotton City, Akola, Maharashtra, the 23 year old danseuse par excellence has made Kathak her career . After learning for 6-7 years she followed her guru Mrs. Archana Sunjay to Pune so that she could continue to learn Kathak under her tutelage.

Vedanti has learned two Gharanas of kathak namely LUKHNOW and JAIPUR. In her dance one can find perfect blend of the delicacy of lukhnow gharana and strong footwork of Jaipur with poise and elegance. Her choreography stretches from Indian folk dances to classical and western dance forms.

As a solo artist Vedanti is focused on shaping the career of the younger generations who want to pursue Kathak as their career. Thus Vedanti plays a three dimensional role of a tutor, a choreographer and a performer. She is working hard towards familiarizing her generation about the tradition of Kathak through her performances and her institute.

•Vedanti has learnt Tabla for 3yrs.

•She has also learnt Vocal Hindustani music for 2 yrs.

   Career

•Vedanti is one of the founders, choreographer and trainer at “Layom Institute of Kathak, Pune”.

•She is running a branch of Madhurita Sarang School of Kathak, Pune, since last 3 yrs; also few Indian folk dance styles and choreographies as well.

Vedanti has completed Choreography of a Marathi movie named “Houde Thodasa Ushir” starring Sharvari Jamenis, Amruta Khanwilkar, Aishwarya Narkar which will release by the end of 2012.

UGC channel took 3 episodes on the choreographies done by Vedanti in Institute’s production named “Colours of Kathak”. The episodes were telecasted in May 2012 on Doordarshan, DD Bharti, Vyas channel and UGC also.

She has also got appreciation from some well-known personalities like Dr.Jabbar Patel, Dr. Sudha Murthy and Mr. Narayan Murthy, Mr.Vishwanath Karad (Founder MIT College), Dr. Puru Dadhich,  Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, Talyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pt. Suhas Vyas, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Pt.Arvindkumar Azad, Smt. Shama Bhate, Mrs. Maneesha Sathe, Pt. Vijay Ghate.

Vedanti Bhagwat has given dance performances all over India. Some of these are:-

•             1999(Akola) – “KALA”: A Dance drama on the journey of kala—the art.

•             2000(Akola) - “Navras”: A choreography depicting 9 different “rasas”.

•             2001(Akola) – “Ase Pavsache Yene.....”  : Marathi dance ballet on rain, comparing with phases of human life. 2002 (Pune) , 2003 (Nagpur).

•             2002(Akola) – Organised by “Kalashray” (live Musical Painting concert with ShrikantSathe).

•             2004(Pune) – Pimpri Chinchwad Festival “Ase Pavsache Yene.....” 

•             2006-070-09-2010(Pune)  – “Nritya Arc” show on Kathak choreographies.

•             2007-08-09(Pune)  – “Nrityashree Madhurita Sarang Smriti Sanman”

•             2007(Dhaka Bangladesh) – Represented India at SAARC Summit at Dhaka.

•             2007(Pune) – “Nritya Collage”- Fusion of Kathak and contemporary style of dance.

•             2008(Chennai) – SAARC Summit Chennai under Youth Affairs and Cultural Ministry of India.

•             2008(Birmingham U.K.) – Solo Performance at Balaji Venkateshwaram Temple.

•             2008 -09(Mumbai) - “Nrityashree Madhurita Sarang Smriti Sanman” organized by Lasya Institute of performing Arts, Mumbai.

•             2008(Mumbai) – “It’s not just a planet, it’s our HOME…” (A dance ballet on Global Warming, Mumbai ’08) : Assistant Director and performer.

•             2009(Jaipur, Chennai) – “Chaturved-Chaturvrutti”: a ballet on episodes of Mahabharta under ‘Lasya’ Institute of Mrs. Rajshri Shirke.

•             2009 (Guhagar, Konkan) Duet performance at Durga Vyadeshwari Temple on Ashtami, Navratri Utsav.

•             2009 (Pune) - Duet performance in Mr n Mrs Pune Personality contest’09

•             2009 (Pune) – “Impulse’09” an Inter IT event.

•             2010 (Pune) - Pune Tree Fest organised by NGO’s.

•             2010 (Pune) performed at “Bharat Asmita Awards 2010” in MIT college campus in the presence of 7000 audience.

•             2010 (Pune) Performed at Madhurita Sarang Smruti Sanman.

•             2010 (Akola, Maharashtra)- “Colours of Kathak” home production of  Layom Institute collaborated with Kalashray Sansthan.

•             2010 (Pune) Performance in “Shabda Sparsha”, show on Marathi poetry.

•             2010 (Pune) Performance at annual function of Cognizant technologies.Pvt.Ltd

•             2010 (Pune) “Karwa”, Dance n Musical concert on Classical Hindi Songs like Gazal, Mujra, Thumris etc.

•             2010 (Pune) “Laheja”, musical concert of Guzals and thumri.

•             2011“Chaitreya” on auspicious occasion of “Gudipadwa” 

•             2011 (Pune) “Sonsade Album Release” function, the biggest album in the history of Marathi industry by KedarBhagwat, on 2nd June at Kalmadi Auditorium.

•             2011(Pune) “Antarang” on 30th July, A dance drama based on the biography of social worker Sindhu Tai Sapkal, at Siddhi garden, performance and Choreography, event organized by Chaurus Events.

•             2011 (Mumbai) performed at the inauguration ceremony of 2nd Yashvant Film Festival in presence of Mr.SharadPawar.

•             2011 Performed at various places in Maharashtra for Sakal Newspaper’s “Madhurangan” Section.

•             2012(Chandigrah) Performed in Festival of SangeetNatak Academy in 2012, Dance Drama named “Khata” based on Rabindranath Tagore’s short story.

•             2012 (Bangalore) Temple festival, “RavanMadodariSamvad” by RajshreeShirke.

•             2012 (Akola, Pune)“Colours of kathak” (Home Production and choreography) various  experiments in traditional form.

•             2012 Raja Paranjape Smriti Mahotsaw in Pune.

•             2012 Mt. Abu Festival of Rajasthan.

•             2012 (Hayatt, Pune) fusion with percussions.

Vedanti has received many achievements & prizes such as:

•             2002 – 2nd Prize at Kiran Sangeet Samaroh , Katni (M.P.)

•             2003 – 2nd Prize at Shrikrishna Sangeet Vidyalaya ,Dhamtari (Chattisgarh)

•             2004 – 2nd Prize at Maharashtra Level Dance Competition at Akola (Maharashtra)

•             2005 – 1st Prize at Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh (Pune) in Duet Category

•             2005 – 3rd Prize at Mood Indigo Festival at IIT Powai (Mumbai) in Inter-College Street Dancing Competition.

•             2005 – 3rd Prize at Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya , Mumbai.

•             2006 – 1st Consolation at Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya , Mumbai.

•             2006 – 3rd Prize at “VERVE”, Inter-College Dance Competition.

•             2006 – 2nd Prize at Akhil Bhartiya Sanskrutik Sangh (Pune) in Duet Category

•             2006 – 2nd Prize at Kalyani Karandak (Pune).

•             2008 – 3rd Prize at Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Award.(Mumbai)

•             2010 – 2nd Prize at Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Award.(Mumbai)
