Raga Sindhura

   About Raga Sindhura

Raga Sindhura

Sindhura is a raga in Hindustani classical music. Raga Sindhura is a light and joyful raga. Many Hori, Tappa compositions have been done in this raga. Apart from being performed during the Holi season, it is also performed during the monsoons.

This is a light flittering melody with resemblance to raga Kafi. In this raga, Gandhar and Nishad is Varjya in Aaroh (S R m P D S') however sometimes Nishad Shuddha is used and Tar Shadj (S') is approached like m P N N S', which also differentiates this from raga Kafi. Also m P g R are the raga Vachak notes of raga Kafi, whereas in Sindhura m P ; m g R ; m g R S illustrates the raga.

This raga is best suited for Thumri, Tappa, Hori etc. This is a Uttarang Pradhan raga
