Raga Shukla Bilawal
Shukla Bilawal is a morning Raga and belongs to the Bilawal family of Ragas. Shukla Bilawal, another variety of Bilawal with a focus on Madhyam, the fourth swar or note, according to scholars has elements of Kedar and Malhar integrated with Bilawal. The beauty of this Raga lies in the vakra (zig-zag) use of the 'outside' note, namely, Komal Nishad.
Raga Shukla Bilawal strands of Khamaj are woven into the Bilawal fabric in this ancient raga. Its key identifier is the poorvanga prayoga S G G M, G P M with the trailing deergha madhyam. The Khamaj antecedents and other special sancharis in Shukla Bilawal are heard in the chalan cobbled together by Jha-sahab.
