Raga Shuddha Kalyan
Raga Shuddh Kalyan also known as Bhoop Kalyan. Shuddh Kalyan raga in Hindustani classical music in the Kalyan thaat. Raga Shuddh Kalyan is associated with Early Night.
This raga has notes of raga Bhoopali in Aaroh and raga Yaman in Avroh. In some texts, it is referred to as raga Bhoop-Kalyan, however the name Shuddha Kalyan is more popular.
In Avroh while rendering Aalaps, S' N D and P M G are taken in Meend and pause is not given on Nishad and Madhyam Teevra respectively. In Taans, Nishad is taken freely in Avroh and Madhyam Teevra may be skipped.
Shuddha Kalyan avoids the confusion with Bhoop / Bhupali by its phrases P.D.P.S and S N. R, which rule out Bhoop / Bhupali categorically. In addition, Shuddha Kalyan utilizes the Re swara as one of special emphasis, as against the Ga-dominance of Bhoop/Bhupali. Shuddha Kalyan prefers to use the Ga swara as a transitional swara in its journey towards Pa in a loop phrase RGPM^G as distinct from the direct DSRG or RPG characteristic of Bhoop / Bhupali.
