Raga Saraswati

Saraswati is a Carnatic raga which has been used in compositions by Saint Tyagaraja, Swati Tirunal, Muttaiah Bhagavatar and many others. Muttuswami Dikshitar has composed numerous songs on Goddess Saraswati and her various forms including Sharavati, Kalavati, Bharati, Girvani and Vagdevi.

This is a very sweet melody and has been imported from Carnatic Music. In this Raga Pancham-Rishabh Sangati is Raga Vachak. Madhyam Teevra is the vital note of this Raga. Komal Nishad is used as: R M P D S' n D ; M P n D ; R M P S' n D ; P M D P (M)R ,n ,D S. The following combinations clearly bring out the Raga mood.

Some musicians use Komal Nishad in Aaroh making the Jati of this Raga Shadhav-Shadhav.
