Malavi is the janya raga of the 28th Melakarta raga Harikambhoji / Harikedaragowla.

There is a belief that Saint Thyagaraja invented this ragam. There is a raga by name Malavi in Hindustani Music also. This is an admixture of Jog in the poorvanga and elements of Malkauns elsewhere. The buzz here is a special prayoga involving shuddha dhaivat: P D D n DPM G M.
