Raga Komal Rishabh Asawari
Komal Rishabh Asavari, often simply called Asavari, is a raga in Hindustani classical music. As its name suggests, it differs from the raga Shuddh Rishabh Asavari by using a komal (flat) re (R_) while Asavari uses a shuddha (natural) re (R). It is believed that Komal Rishabh Asavari was the original form of Asavari.
This is a very sweet morning rag which is also referred to as Asawari Todi. It is similar to raga Bilaskhani Todi except that in Aaroh, instead of Madhyam and Nishad Varjya, Gandhar and Nishad are Varjya. The Avroh is same with Pancham Varjya in both the ragas.
This raga belongs to Bhairavi Thaat. In Poorvang, Todi Ang appears like: S r g ; g r ; g r S and Asawari Ang appears in Uttarang. In this raga, Shadj (Sa) is usually omitted in Avroh like: S' r' n d ; d S' r' g' r' n d. In this raga Pancham is the Nyas Swar, however Pancham is skipped in Avroh, like S r m P ; P d P ; P d n d m g r ; r g r S. Although Nishad is Varjya in Aaroh, it is sometimes used as Anuwadi Swar like: r' n S r' g' or r ,n S r.
This is a Meend Pradhan raga. This raga can be expanded in all the three octaves. The atmosphere created by this raga is deep and soothing. The notes as given hereafter literally create a live image of this raga:
S r ,n ,d ; ,P ,d ,n ,d ; ,m ,P ,d ,d S ; r r g r g r ,n ,d S ; r m m P ; m P d m ; P d n d m ; m g r ; g r ,n ,d S ; m P d S' ; S' r' r' S' ; S' r' g' r' g' r' n d d m P ; m P d S' ; P d n d m ; P d m g r ; g r ,n ,d S ;
The chalan and structure of raga Komal Rishabh Asawari as shown above is popular these days, however according to old versions, the Avroh of this raga is like: S' r' n d P ; d m P ; m P n d P ; d m P ; (m)g r S.
