Raga Desi
Desi is a Hindustani classical raga. This raga may be affiliated with the Asavari thaat or with the Kafi thaat depending on the way of presentation. It is similar to raga Barwa.
Raga Desi belongs to Kafi Thaat, however some musicians relate it to Asawari Thaat. Its Vadi is Pancham and Samvadi is Shadj. It has a Vakra structure particularly in Avroh.
In Aaroh, Komal Nishad is sometimes skipped like: R m P D m P S'. In Avroh, one should not render S' D P m g R S, but render S' P D m P R g S R ,n S, which is the raga Vachak Sangati of raga Desi. Among many forms of raga Desi, the one with Shuddha Dhaivat is more popular, however in this format, Komal Dhaivat is also rarely used for beautification of the raga.
This raga is mostly sung in Madhya and Tar Saptaks.
