What sets Vivek apart is his deep passion for using music as a means to serve society.
Growing up in a small town in the heart of Maharashtra, he was acutely aware of the
challenges faced by emerging talent in the arts.
To address this, Vivek established Gurukul Prathisthan, a charitable trust dedicated to
nurturing young musicians. This initiative allows dedicated learners to reside and study in
accordance with the ancient Gurukul tradition. Since its inception a decade ago, Gurukul
Prathisthan’s music academy has welcomed over 3,000 students from India and abroad,
fostering a vibrant community of aspiring musicians and ensuring that the rich legacy of
classical music continues to thrive.
As a guru to countless disciples and a talented composer, Vivek's passion for music
remained insatiable. In 2017, he launched myGurukul mobile app, the world's first flute
learning app available on mobile phones and PCs. Since its inception, over 500,000 users
from more than 60 countries have embraced this innovative platform to learn from Vivek.
Initially launched with Vivek as the sole instructor, myGurukul rapidly evolved to encompass
a diverse array of musical instruments. Today, the platform proudly features esteemed
stalwarts such as Pt. Vivek Sonar for Hindustani Flute, Vidwan Shashank Subramaniyam
for Carnatic Flute, Pt. Ravi Chary for Sitar, Ustad Fazal Qureshi for Tabla, and Pt. Milind
Raikar for Violin. This rich educational environment fosters a vibrant community for aspiring
musicians worldwide. Through myGurukul, Vivek continues to inspire and mentor students,
significantly enhancing the accessibility of classical music for learners across the globe.
