   Biography
An economist by profession, Radhika has been pursuing Indian
Classical music very passionately since she was 8 years old. Brought up
in Singapore, Radhika spent most of her school holidays in Mumbai
learning music in the gurukul1 system from Shri Suresh Wadkar and his
wife Mrs. Padma Wadkar. Realising her inclination towards music, it was
Sureshji who suggested that she move to India, where she could pursue
music as well as her academic career. For the past several years, Radhika has been pursuing advanced
training in the Jaipur- Atrauli Gharana from Pandit Raghunandan
Panshikar, foremost disciple of Ganasaraswati Smt. Kishori Amonkar.
Through a scholarship awarded by SPICMACAY (Society for the promotion
of Indian classical music and culture amongst youth) Radhika has also
had the opportunity to study semi-classical forms of music from
Padmabhushan Smt. Girija Devi at the Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata Radhika has completed her ‘Sangeet Visharad’ with Distinction from
the Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. As a child artist, she has had
the honour of performing on All India Radio. She is the proud recipient
of several awards for classical and semi-classical music from
prestigious institutions like Swar Sadhana Samiti, Dadar Matunga
Cultural Centre and Sudhir Phadke Smruti Samiti. She was recently
awarded the ‘Trembakrao Janorikar Puraskar’ by Gaavardhan, Pune for
excellence in classical music. Even at such an early stage in her
career, Radhika has had the honour of giving many performances in India
and abroad (Singapore, USA, Canada, Dubai) and has also served as an
examiner for the preliminary level examinations conducted by Gandharva
Mahavidyalaya in the USA in April 2009. Being a versatile singer, she has also achieved heights in the world
of Hindi Film music. Titled as ‘Pune Idol’ for the year 2007, Radhika
has also lent her mellifluous voice to several Bollywood films such as
Kuch Kuch Hota hai, Dil to Pagal Hai, Chachi 420 and several others.
She has participated in popular television programs such as SA RE GA MA
PA, Aao Jhomein Gayein, Star Yaar Kalakaar and Yamkeez Mast Mast Show,
all hosted by celebrities in India.
Radhika has recently completed her Masters in Economics from Tufts
University, Boston and is presently working as a Research Fellow at the
Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. She is very passionate
about preserving the Indian music tradition and is a keen teacher.
Along with her academic pursuits and performances, Radhika has taught
Hindustani Vocal music at Harvard Sangeet (South Asian music group at
Harvard University) and MIT Swara. She has conducted lecture-
demonstrations and seminars on Indian Classical music at several
educational institutes in the USA such as the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute, Tufts Music Department, Worcester Arts Museum and the
College of Holy Cross. While in Singapore, Radhika plans to continue to
do so in educational and music institutions in the region.
