   Biography

Shailendra Mishra Masters in Music and 'TOP'grade artist from the All India Radio and National Televeision hails from the Banaras, through he was born and individualistic. His solo and accompanisments concerts are acclaimed worldwide. He has played with stalwarts of Indian classical music like Pt. V. G. Jog (Violin), Pt. Shrikant Bakre(Vocal), Pt. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (Sarod), Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra (Vocal), Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar (Vocal), Vidushi N. Rajam (Violin), Smt. Laxmishankar (Vocal), Paarur M. S.  Gopalkrishnan (Violin) and world music like Jazz, Persian Music etc. He has been to various paarts of the world like the USA, Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. Under cultural exchange programme, his 4 years stay in Malaysia resulted in wide promotion of Indian music in general and tabla as an art in particular in south east part of Asia.

Seated behind his drums, he seems to have entered a world of his own. His whole being seems to participate in the various aspects of rhythm, keeping the beat, reciting the Bols and indicating the pattern with immaculate ease. He plays passages effortlessly with unbelievable clarity, incredible tone modulation and a subtle charm typical to his style.

The only way of learning music in the true sense, according to Shailendra ji is through GURU SHISHYA PARAMPARA. Music is not an art that can be learnt through books. The SANIDHYA (Company) of the GURU (Teacher) is very essential. Music helps in developing a sound personality.

   Career
Shailendra Mishra ji Masters in Music and ‘TOP’ grade artist of ‘ALL INDIA RADIO’ (AIR) represents both Banaras and Farrukkhabad Gharanas. He has participated several times in the ‘National Programme of Music’ on AIR as well as on Doordarshan (Indian T.V. channels).Shailendra ji has conducted workshops as well as ‘Lectures Demonstrations’ covering various topics on music especially the Indian rhythm and related aspects of the art of tabla playing. Shailendra ji has accompanied stalwarts like Pt. V.G.Jog,(violin), Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (Sarod), Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra(vocal), Vidushi N.Rajam(violin), Pt Ulhas Kashalkar, Parur M.S.Gopalkrishnan (Violin), Vidushi Girija Devi ji and a host of eminent vocalists and instrumentalists in India and Abroad. His solo performances and Jugalbandi concerts including the Carnatic percussionists have been greatly admired and applauded by critics and connoisseurs. Of late, his exploration with fusion music has turned out to be one more feather in his cap. He has worked with jazz musicians like Lewis Pragasam, Greg Lyons and ‘Gamelan’ (group of Malaysian traditional instruments) musicians too. He has toured different places in India as well as abroad to perform and propagate the art of tabla playing. He has also served ICCR, Government of India on deputation as a faculty in the Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur where he taught this art to the people in Malaysia
