Biography

Born on 1st 1973 march, learning sitar under the ‘Guru-shishya’ tradition. His

guru shri Vijay g sant is a well-known sitar player from famous ‘Sant Gharana’ of

baroda,India. His grandfather pt.Gangadhar sant was a traditional shenai-violin

player and he was a regular musician of ‘kalawant karkhana” at the time of

Shrimant Maharaja Sayajirao Gaeakwad of baroda.

His maternal Grandfather Shri Shankar Rao Gaikwad, was a

celebrated shanai Player to whom belong the credit of making the first ever

Gramophone Recording of the well-known doyen of the instrument, Ustad

Bismillah Khan.

Vishwas Sant own identity lies in his own style of the instrument

and rendering the raga which has created its own way, apart from the path made by

Pt.Ravi Shankar and Ut.Vilayat Khan. His style of playing is a unique

combination, incorporating elements of his firmly in the Gayaki tradition of

Classical vocal music.

He has a special style of playing his Instrument with Gayaki Anga

(singing style) with a Heart touching alaps and an ability to play different Intricate

and astonishing Tana’s.

Career

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

Ashish was appointed as Sitar Teacher at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Cultural institute, London. At Present giving his services as a principle at R.M.DESAI College of Music and Dance,S.P.university, Vallabh Vidyanagar Gujarat.

NATIONAL & INTERNTIONAL PERFORMANCES:

Dr. Ashish Sant has performed Several times for All India Radio National Programmes.

N.C.P.A-Bombay Music Concert.

Sweden & East Germany, 1988, with Dance Troupe of KADAMB, sponsord by the India Festival, Moscow, 1988, sponsored by the Govt. of India.

Concert in Elizabeth hall- London.

Concert tour in Bhutan, 2003 with Dance Troupe of KADAM Sponsored by the I.C.C.R.

Pt.Vijaykumar Sant is the first artist of Gujarat having an individual compact disc, in international market, under his name.

Achieved Award of Best Citizen of India, Delhi, 2002-03.
