Odissi dancer

Biography

Abhijit Deb was born in Agartala,(Tripura), the pastoral traditional environment in which he grew up as a child was hardly conducive for pursuit of an art form like Indian classical dance. Ultimately his impetuous affection for Odissi dance, influenced him to leave his home town Agartala. He started learning Odissi Dance under Smt. Poushali Mukharjee in Kolkata.

Abhijit's quest for higher training brought him to Odisha (Bhubaneswar), the citadel of Odissi. Here he joined the 'GKCM Odissi Research Center'. At the same time he came under the personal tutelage of Padmashree Guru Smt. Kumkum Mohanty and Smt. Mukti Lata Pal. Now he has joined ‘RUDRAKSH FOUNDATION’ under Guru Shri Bichitrananda Swain where he is continuing his dance performance and activities. He is also involved in teaching dance to both students of Indian and Foreign origin.

By his natural talent he engaged in poems and script writing & music direction as well as sand painting that he is now utilizing in his dance form and makes his performance more innovative.

Abhijit Deb is working in RUDRAKSH FOUNDATION. He has performed in Sangam Festival, Ananya Festival received Odissi Jyoti Award and Orissa Music & Art Academy Award. By his natural talent he engaged in poems and script writing & music direction as well as sand painting that he is now utilizing in his dance form and makes his performance more innovative.

•Recipient of the Senior National Scholarship Award from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.

•Selected by ICCR (Govt. of India)as a solo odissi dancer and dance Teacher for abroad assignment.

•Railway Ministerial Staff (Bhubaneswar).

•Recipient of the ‘Odissi Jyoti’ Award from Devadasi Nrutya Mandir, Orisha, 2008.

•Recipient of the ‘Orissa Music & Art Academy Award’, Orisha, 2008.

•Has worked in a Bollywood film ‘The Desire’, directed by R. Sarath, based on Odissi Dance with Shilpa Setti & Jayapradha.

•Stood Grade Position in All India Inter University Competition, Tezpur, Nagpur 2011.

•“A-Grade” artist of NCZCC Allahabad.

•Stood First in All India Inter Railway Competition 2014,2016.

•Selected by “B” Grade at Doordarshan (Bhubaneswar) as a solo odissi dancer. 2016.
